Knit with the Beacon Babes
Every Wednesday our doors are open and our store is full of laughter from 6:00 to 8:45 pm. Knitters come by car, bike, bus and even boat to socialize, learn new techniques, see the very latest books, yarns and buttons, and share completed projects. Drop by once in a while or make it a regular date. All levels welcome. We ask for a $2 donation to the coffee and homemade goodies fund.

Acid Dyeing with Wool & Silk with Bronwyn Maguire Morris
Have you been wondering how those beautiful hand dyed yarns are created? Are you curious about how wool and silk fibres are dyed? These fibres can be dyed with acid dyes, and this workshop is your introduction to the fascinating world of colour and dyeing. In this workshop you will create a colour wheel, dyeing fabric and fibre to explore the theories and techniques involved in creating beautiful colours. You will learn how colours are mixed to create new colours and how different fibres react differently to the same dyes.
Who : no previous dyeing experience required
Where: to be announced.(either Sidney or Saanich location)
How much: $40.00 for 4 hours of instruction.

Class size: Maximum 8 students
Materials required: Workshop fee includes: dyes and auxiliaries required for lesson, wool and silk fabric and fibre for colour wheel, 50 g ball of your own hand dyed wool. Participants bring rubber gloves. Please wear closed shoes or socks with your sandals and clothes that won’t suffer from the odd splash.

Toe Up Socks on Two Circular Needles with Sharon Stoneman
Topsy Turvy Socks! Turn your socks upside down and learn to knit them from the toe up. In this class you will learn:
• A provisional cast on
• Short row toe and heel construction
• 2 super stretchy ways to cast off
• How to knit with 2 circular needles instead of double pointed needles
When you’ve completed this class you will have the necessary info to knit a well fitting basic pair of socks. During the class we’ll discuss ideas for further sock variations, including alternate toes and heels, and you’ll be provided with a resource list to guide you on your sock knitting journey.
Who : you! A knitter who knows how to knit and purl

2 16” (40 cm) circular needles in a size to suit your yarn (2.00, 2.25 or 2.5 mm)
Approximately 100gr of sock yarn (to make a pair of medium size woman’s socks)

Drop Spindling with Bronwyn Maguire Morris
Have you been tempted by the beautiful rovings and fleeces just waiting to be turned into special yarns? Have you been dreaming of the perfect yarn, the yarn that only you can create? Try your hand at the ancient art of spinning with a drop spindle. Like knitting spindling is repetitive and calming. Like knitting it is exciting and challenging to master and will reward you with a lifetime of exploration. And yarn!
Who : any and all wanna be spinners!

How much: $20.00 for 4 hours of instruction.
Instructor: Bronwyn McGuire Morris
Class size: Maximum 8 students.
Materials required: Participants require a drop spindle (available for purchase approx $20.00 or bring your own) . We will provide the roving. Please bring any material you wish to experiment with spinning.
